The event went on ahead despite forecasts of rain showers in the area and the aftermath of cyclone Olwyn from up North. Indeed, the weather remained favourable as the sun shone for the day. At 10 AM, the sea of green started to parade through the Leederville streets. More than 40 community clubs and businesses took part in the parade that started from Newcastle Street lasting for about an hour and ended on the Medibank Oval on Vincent Street.

Each of the participating clubs and businesses rolled out floats with varying themes and designs. The streets filled with families, children of all ages, pets, and other spectators from all nationalities who wore Irish colours—primarily green, but also white and gold. The event continued in the Medibank Oval with fun activities for every member of the family.

For this year, the theme of the festivities was “Myths and Legends”, which showcased the Irish culture effectively. The float exhibited by All Force Labour Solutions was inspired by the legendary tales of Grace O’Malley, the Pirate Queen of Ireland. A widely known figure of 16th century Irish history, Grace O’Malley inherited her father’s large shipping and trading business. Both feared and respected, she bore many names through the course of her adventures, including Grainne Mhaol, Granuaile, and the Sea Queen of Connacht.
